About - VlexDB

The vlexDB data management application was designed to capture and manage geoscience data such as geological drilling, water wells, soil samples, dust sampling, water quality samples and several other raw data structures. This enables you to capture and manage a broad range of data such as geological exploration data or site baseline data for environmental impact assessments. If a sample has a location and attributes the system can store and manage it.

The main focus was to move away from loosely formatted spreadsheets and hard-coded databases to a more modern customizable database hosted on a secure cloud platform with a secure website based log-in and management tools.

The database structure is very flexible and customizable to suit the user’s data needs and not hard-coded to a specific attribute structure. The main internal structure ensures that the database is robust and the user can add tables and attributes to the database as needed. The application can be scaled as the project grows and expands.

Lookup lists can be created to ensure that data capturing is concise and clear. The system allows you to extract lookup lists from your data in order to find the unique list of descriptions for each attribute. The predefined lookup lists created by the database administrator can be used to capture and manage any attribute data.

The application includes a ‘Standards’ reporting tool to measure compliance to pre-set criteria for regulatory or internal compliance standards. This enables the user to set criteria such as environmental performance criteria or water quality standards. The application further contains several existing reports and diagrams such as:

The application uses strict access rights so that the user can create different levels of access ranging from ‘administrator’ privileges to ‘normal users’ and ‘reporting only’ users. The administrator rights would allow a user to structure and customize the application with lookup lists while normal user login rights would only allow importing, editing and reporting of data.

The system also keeps a detailed log of actions and changes made to the database by individual users and administrators. The system allows an administrator to report the user logs and see the exact date and time when changes were made to the database.
